For advanced learners worldwide
You've moved past textbooks and small talk, but you've hit a plateau. English Reading Circle is a small, guided group where advanced learners read great literature slowly — and discover the art, history and ideas living between the lines.
📅 We hope to begin our first circles in September 2026, in line with the academic year.
Small groups of 7 · Weekly 90-minute live sessions · CEFR C1 / IELTS 7+ (Eiken Grade 1)
Available Reading Circles
Each circle reads slowly — around 20–30 pages a week — with curated guides, vocabulary sheets and genuine conversation. Choose the world you'd like to step into.

Narrative Voice & Subtext
Tackle the plateau through modern masterpieces. From The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time to the haunting subtext of Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go, the wartime narration of The Book Thief and the chilling dystopia of The Handmaid's Tale, we learn to read between the lines — exploring identity, memory and what it means to be human today.
Aesthetics & Psychological Descent
Slow down to study the DNA of language. Using the heavyweights — Dorian Gray, Frankenstein, Jekyll & Hyde and Dracula — we explore atmospheric English, the duality of man, and the Victorian obsession with science and the supernatural.
Rhetoric & Manipulation
Explore how English becomes a tool for social change. We analyse the sharp wit of Animal Farm and A Christmas Carol, alongside the cautionary worlds of Fahrenheit 451 and Lord of the Flies — learning to spot irony and see how words hide and reveal the truth.
World-Building & Maturing Narratives
Designed for teen readers, this circle begins with the foundation of modern British imagination. Through the first four volumes of Harry Potter, we move beyond the magic to see how English builds whole worlds — growing our vocabulary as the prose matures.
About Davide
My love for English didn't begin with a textbook — it began with the macabre, rhythmic world of Edgar Allan Poe. I still remember that first spark of wonder: the way a single short story could shift the atmosphere of a whole room. From that moment, I was hooked.
Throughout school, while others saw literature as a chore, it was my sanctuary. That fascination led me to study English language and literature, then a Bachelor's degree in Theology — where I became deeply interested in how language, philosophy and story intersect, and how novels let us explore the biggest human questions.
For me, a holiday has always meant a suitcase half-full of books. After years of office life in various British cities, I traded the noise for a small farm in the Portuguese hills — quieter, grounded in nature, and centred around an ever-growing library.
Over the past eight years as a professional English teacher, I've worked with learners from around the world, delivering thousands of online lessons focused on confidence, clarity and expressive ability. I'm TEFL qualified, with classroom experience across Europe and Africa before moving fully online.
The Reading Circle grew naturally out of that work. I wanted a space where serious learners could move beyond conversation practice and experience English as it truly lives — through literature, ideas and discussion. Each group is kept small, so the conversation stays relaxed, thoughtful and genuinely shared.

Common Enquiries
It's designed for advanced learners who have hit a plateau. If standard articles feel functional but dry, and you crave intellectual depth and meaningful, rhythmic conversation, you'll find your place here — wherever in the world you're reading from.
I recommend a level around CEFR C1 — roughly IELTS 7+ (or Eiken Grade 1 for learners in Japan). Our focus isn't grammar points, but using your high-level English to navigate complex themes and sophisticated prose with confidence.
More than a book club, it's a sanctuary for deep literary exploration. We go beyond the utility of English to uncover the art, history and cultural DNA found between the lines of classic and contemporary masterpieces.
The circles are built for busy adults, so the pace is slow and manageable — usually 20–30 pages a week. With the reading guides and vocabulary sheets, most members spend one to two hours reading and preparing before the live session. The goal is to savour the story, not rush it.
You won't fall behind. After every session I share a detailed written recap of the themes, insights and questions we discussed. Combined with your weekly guides and vocabulary sheets — and the daily group chat — you'll have everything you need to catch up.
Yes — members buy their own copies of the assigned novels. Physical paperbacks are great for annotating and highlighting, though e-readers are perfectly fine, and some classics are free online. I provide all the supplementary guides, vocab sheets and contextual PDFs.
