Reading Circle

Political Satire & Allegory

Analyse power, persuasion, and the dark side of human organization.

Thursdays · 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM GMT

📅 We hope to begin our first circles in September 2026, in line with the academic year.

A vintage typewriter and newspaper on a writer's desk

For those who love history, politics and sociology. This circle examines how language can be used to control, to manipulate — and to liberate. Through powerful allegory and biting satire we explore the breakdown of society, the dangers of censorship and the corruption of ideals. It's our most analytical circle, and perfect if you love to debate big ideas.

Reading: Animal Farm · A Christmas Carol · Fahrenheit 451 · Lord of the Flies

Language & Fluency Focus

What you'll actually build

Persuasive rhetoric & argumentation

You'll analyse how leaders — and authors — use rhetoric to persuade, and learn to structure powerful arguments, deploy rhetorical questions and speak with real authority.

Decoding metaphor & symbolism

You'll learn to look past the literal story to the larger societal symbols beneath it — a habit that sharpens critical thinking in any language.

High-level abstract debate

This circle hosts our most intense thematic discussions. You'll gain the confidence to debate politics, economics and human nature, agreeing and disagreeing with others in sophisticated English.

Authoritative & academic vocabulary

You'll build a robust lexicon around governance, psychology, philosophy and social structures — ideal for professionals working in international environments.
